Which category to enter

This is a general contest. Underwater work belongs in these categories:

  • Under Water

    Open

Life below the surface in marine or freshwater settings — either animal behaviour or animals and plants shown as part of their underwater habitat.

Restriction: Wild, non-captive subjects only; baiting or luring is not allowed.

  • Oceans - The Bigger Picture

    Conservation

Images about the ocean's wider role and the pressures on it; not limited to underwater shots, but a natural home for marine stories.

Research notes

The 62nd competition took entries in late 2025; its winners were announced on 13 October 2026 (Tony Wu won the Under Water category). Exact closing time was not confirmed. Official pages could not be opened directly during research; facts come from search-engine extracts of nhm.ac.uk pages and should be spot-checked.
